Who am I ?
The Wi-Fi Ronin
The Wi-Fi Ronin
A ronin walks alone — no master, no fixed path. Just skill, discipline, and the road ahead.
That’s what Wi-Fi Ronin is about. I’ve fallen down the Wi-Fi rabbit hole and I’m not climbing back out. The CWNE is my destination. This blog is the journey in between — the courses, the failures, the lightbulb moments, and the hard-won knowledge I pick up along the way.
Whether you’re here to learn about wireless networking or just curious what it takes to chase one of the industry’s toughest certifications, pull up a seat. The road is long, but the signal is strong.
Hi, I'm Kurt. And I do Wi-Fi.
But let's back up a little — because Wi-Fi was not exactly the plan.
I was born in 1982, and somewhere along the way I decided that music was going to be my thing. Not just as a hobby, but as a career.
In 2006 I graduated with a master’s degree in Trumpet, and for a few years I actually lived that life as a professional musician. It sounds romantic. And parts of it were. But reality has a way of quietly catching up with the dream, and eventually I had to be honest with myself — this wasn’t what I expected it to be.
So I did something slightly insane: I went back to school. Evening classes, three years, a full networking course — while still working during the day. If you want the full story of how that led me to Wi-Fi specifically, I wrote about it here: [How I Got Into Wi-Fi – wifironin.eu]
Once I graduated, I started working for some of the bigger players in the industry, and the rest is more or less what this blog is about. Today I work as a solutions architect and wireless architect at Quant ICT (www.quant.be).
But it's not all Wi-Fi.
Once the kids arrived, I wanted to capture those moments properly. So I bought myself a Canon camera. Six years later, that innocent purchase had turned into a full-blown wedding photography business. If you’re curious: www.kurtneven.be
The trumpet never really went away either. I still play — as an amateur now — in the MoBb Big Band (www.mobb.be). And recently I picked up an old love again: conducting the orchestra where, more than thirty years ago, my musical journey first began.
Looking at all of this, there’s actually a common thread running through everything I do — whether it’s designing a wireless network, photographing a wedding, or conducting an orchestra. It’s always about people.
Understanding what they need, delivering something that makes them happy, and doing it with the same passion regardless of whether I’m holding a conductor’s baton, a camera, or staring at a heat map.
That’s me in a nutshell. Welcome to the blog.
